Nature's Lessons Paintings

Hey guys, for the past 3 weeks I've been painting hard core to get these paintings done for the Nature's Lessons Exhibition that openened at the Ahem Art Collective from Dec 14 - Jan 31.
This is my first exhibition as a new member of the Unblush Collective.  Below are my watercolour contributions for the show.

African Fruit Beetle

My first contribution is an African Fruit Beetle or aka a Rose Beetle. This painting was particularly fun to paint. I like the sharp contrast of the beetle's colours and the textures on the back were a joy to paint.

Shongalolo

This shongalolo aka millipede was tricky to paint, this was my second attempt, the first attempt was slightly too big for the short amount of time I had to get everything ready for the exhibition. Kinda bit of more than I could chew.;D

Cape Gooseberry

I grew up in Johannesburg and only after I moved down to Cape Town was I introduced to gooseberries. These berries are so resilient they grow all over the world, it just so happens that they flourish here in Cape Town, hence the name Cape Gooseberry.

AcornJust looking at an acorn makes me smile, I think it's because of all the fond childhood memories associated with them.

Fern

This Maiden's Hair fern was a joy to design the composition of the leaves and stem, unfortunately I need to focus a bit more on the finer details and texture of the individual leaves.

Halloween Night 13 - Bat Lady

Happy halloween!! It's night 13 of my project and the final painting is of a Bat Lady. 🦇 In my opinion bat's are THE creature of Halloween so I just had to paint it today.

I hope you have a spooktacular halloween night!

Halloween Night 12 - Mukade Lady

Tomorrow is Halloween and I'll be painting my final Halloween painting! Tonight's painting is in my opinion the most terrifying thing to put on a lady's head. A mukade lady or a centipede lady. I was introduced to these insects while living in Japan, they are scariest nonsense insects I can think of.

Halloween Night 11 - Moth Lady

It's night eleven and I painted a moth lady! My husband is not pleased with me and so not impressed with this painting because you see my husband had an intense dislike for moths and butterflies. It's hilarious for me to see the man I married flail, dodge and flee ever time a happy little butterfly or moth decide to flutter near him. It's quiet funny cause I swear he's blond hair is a natural moth magnet.🦋

Halloween Night 10 - Snake Lady

Tonight's painting is a few hours late but it's here now and it's a Snake Lady.
You know those days where you just need a veg day to recharge your batteries? That was today and I really don't know how this happened but I surprised myself by leaving the comfort of the bed to come and paint the tenth painting. I'm still not sure if I'm proud of myself for getting this painting out tonight or angry for leaving the bed... perhaps I'm "prangry".

p.s I just realized how cool this painting would have been if I added a few more snake to get that Medusa effect.

Halloween Night 9 - Cat Lady

Happy national black cat day! Night 9 is a black cat lady.
I really don't get how black cats are more often than not still seen a bad luck in this day and age. I just do see it.

Halloween Night 8 - Rat Lady

It's night 8 and I painted a lady and her rat. I absolutely adore rats, I was lucky enough to have a cool mom who let me have pet rats while growing up. I fondly remember taking them everywhere with me. They are such intelligent and lovable animals.

Halloween Night 5 - Mantis Lady

I don’t really know how I feel about these insects, the mini sized ones seem okay and are adorable but the bigger ones I’m not sure about.

Halloween Night 4 - Frog Lady

Night 4 and it’s a Frog Lady tonight. 🐸  IDK my lady turned out looking far too much like Dr. Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. LOL
